The Gibborim are a mysterious and malevolent pantheon of godlike monsters that serve as the overaching antagonists of the entire Runaways comic book series which also makes them part of the larger shared multiverse of Marvel and despite a relatively small appearance in "the flesh" they have had incredible power over the plot of the Runaways and are the true force behind the Pride and their children, the Seed of the Gibborim.

History[]

The Gibborim are a trio of cosmic giants who have claimed to originate from the distant past of Earth, being seen as elder-gods or even as fallen agents of God - they claim to be the last survivors of their kind and have a deep hatred for all humanity, whom they seek to destroy so as to reshape Earth back into a "paradise", while they claim they wish to make their "holy Father" proud it seems probable that they simply use this to justify their own goals of conquest.

Traits[]

The Gibborim are monstrous entities standing at a minimum of 100 ft in height and possesing six fingers - they are ancient beyond measure and have unspeakable powers over reality but demand the sacrifice of innocents in order to bestow even a sample of their power to the world.

While all Gibborim despise humanity they will grant desires to those who worship them, yet they make no secret that even those loyal to them will fight to survive and that only half of their "Pride" would live, while the rest would perish alongside the rest of humanity.

Trivia[]

  • The Gibborim are based upon the Nephilim of Biblical lore, who were said to be semi-divine giants born of blasphemous union between humanity and fallen angels: in some texts this was one of the reasons for God creating the Great Flood, to purge the world of these monsters.
  • The Gibborim are altered in the Runaways TV series and are instead aliens with more light-based structures and abilities.
  • The Gibborim are quite similiar to the Ogdru-Jahad the villains of the Hellboy Series.
  • In MCU, the Gibborim are merged with the Majesdanians, the alien race.
