Abel Cameron, better known as Grant, is the secondary antagonist in Garou: Mark of the Wolves.

Biography[]

Abel lived in the slums of the city of Second South Town, where he protected the siblings Marie and Kain R. Heinlein, whom he considered to be his family and only friends. After Marie married with Geese Howard, Abel stayed with Kain in the slums. Shortly after her leave, Abel and Kain one day come across the atrocious sight of a notorious local gang in their neighborhood violently ganging up and beating a boy to death on the streets out of their own indulgence and frustrations. With no one else around to witness or respond to the boy's plight, Kain and Abel take the boy's body and bury him out of pity. After a moment of silence for what had passed, Kain's frustrations became even greater, resentful to be born in such a lurid, awful world and that he would not die getting out of the slums without a fight. Together with Abel, they promised that they would push forward to gain the power to attain everything denied to them, and to be partners in their pursuit of power.

While Kain grew to be a fearsome street fighter at a young age, motivated by the experience to fight or die out of the slums, Abel too was forever changed, but on a deeper and more disturbed level. Believing society to be at its end and festering with sin, evil, and corruption that allowed such an atrocity to pass, Abel lost faith in mankind's current condition and turned to believing in the end times and eventually the occult. When Kain's strength and charisma during a street fight caught the attention of the local mobster Don Papas, he and Kain were taken in by him to become his subordinates. As Kain lead the way, becoming an up and coming mobster, Abel fulfilled his promise as his protector and follower, acting as his bodyguard. Knowing his strength then would likely not be enough to uphold his promise, Abel found further solace in his beliefs. Delving deeper into foreboding prophecies of the human harbingers of the end times and the forbidden knowledge of contacting dark deities and demons to instantly attain one's desires, Abel then acted upon striking a deal with an evil entity to grant him the power to become the herald of death to the world's sinners and bring about a new world reborn by Kain's ambitions, fulfilling his destiny and duty to his only faith and friend. Selling his soul to the forces of darkness, Abel was bestowed the forbidden knowledge of Ankoku Karate, a perverse incarnation of Karate drawn from the souls of sinners who have turned to using their craft for evil. Since that day, Abel was no more; donning a demonic red mask and with a new foreboding strength, the man known as Grant was born.

Later, upon hearing the news of Marie's death, Kain's anguish and anger at Geese became greater, angry that he used his sister only for personal gain. Kain then decided to become a crime lord himself to overthrow Geese and rule Southtown. With the reborn Grant, they began a terrifying mob war against Don Papas that shook nations the world over. With Ankoku Karate's inhuman strength and might, Grant's offensives blazed a path of destruction that was never seen in ages. Any community or town involved experienced such bloodshed and terror of unimaginable hysteria and fury upon where Grant stood. With his demonic visage, such places became abandoned ghost towns desolated by the fear of Grant's return and the promise of chaos and carnage his visage would bring. Becoming known as the "Martyr of Might", the "Harbringer of Armageddon", the "Demonic Fist of Destruction", or even the Devil himself, Grant would become an urban legend of infamy throughout the world, feared as a modern day symbol of inexorable doom and oncoming terror that brings death and destruction anywhere he goes. As his right-hand and personal assassin, eliminating all who opposed Kain, Grant's reputation served as a powerful bringer of fear to strike at the heart of all threats that dared to face him.

Having brought their mutiny against Don Papas with success by overthrowing him and taking over his coffers, his last remaining forces would fight until the end. They staged an ambush upon Kain and his forces. In the heat of the crossfire, Grant was able to intercept a bullet from a flanking mobster and take him out before he could take out Kain. Though the wound was not immediately lethal or crippling, the bullet shot through his chest and was lodged dangerously near his heart. Without fear, Grant shrugged it off and from then on lived everyday as if it were to be his last, seeking a grand final battle should he come across his inevitable fate with death.

Wishing to overtake Geese's reputation throughout the South Town metropolitan area and bring about a world of "true freedom" where the strong would rule over the weak, Kain would revive Geese's dark legacy of the King of Fighter tournaments after ten long years as The King Of Fighters: Maximum Mayhem event. Using Grant's dark urban legend, Kain purposely spreads the rumor that the devil incarnate Grant is hosting its event, striking fear into the weak willed to weed them out, while drawing those foolish enough for Grant to strike down to ensure Terry Bogard, the killer of Geese Howard, and Rock Howard, Geese's son, will be the only rightful ones to make it to him. Ordering Grant to watch the Heinlein mansion estate, the Dark Palace, and eliminate the fighters if they make their way, he welcomes Terry Bogard and Rock Howard, challenging them to have his final battle.

Terry accepts the challenge and fights Grant with all his strength. After a fierce battle, Terry defeats Grant, but ends exhausted. Grant tells Rock that Kain is waiting for him in his mansion, then crumbles over his own weight. Later on, Grant continues his duty, helping Kain to strike down the rest of Second South's remaining mobsters and mafias before enacting his ultimate plans.

Personality[]

Grant is a very proud warrior, who shows no mercy for anyone, and detests those weak and who beg for mercy, believing death to be a fitting end to their pittance. He puts his friendship with Kain above all else.
