Unity is the titular main antagonist of the Superman: The Animated Series episode of the same name alongside his main servant and accomplice, Reverend Amos Howell.

It is a parasitic, monstrous alien creature of Lovecraftian proportions and an enemy of Superman. Unity manages to get to Smallville, Kansas using its spaceship, getting most of the citizens to join "him" with the assistance of Reverend Amos Howell, its servant, in its attempt to take over the Earth.

It was voiced by Stephen Root, who also voiced Reverend Amos Howell in the same episode, Frank in Ice Age, Mildew in Dragons: Riders of Berk, Martin Mertens in Adventure Time and Jim Hudson in Get Out.

History[]

Unity was an alien parasite that had managed to consume several worlds for ages past before landing on Earth.

Unity's right-hand servant, Reverend Amos Howell, was sent to "convert" the people of Smallville in Kansas. In less than no time, all citizens of the town were at his disposal. With tentacles, Unity tapped into the people's energy, becoming one with them. It planted a parasitic worm-like spore in people's brains, feeding off the electrical impulses in their nervous system.

With the people of Smallville under his control, it was his plan to send them on "missionary" work around the world to let the entire planet's population become one with Unity.

Fighting off several agents of Unity, Superman and Supergirl discovered its weakness: x-rays. Using their x-ray vision, they successfully separated Ma Kent and a couple of doctors from the spore's control. They made their way to Smallville, where they separated more victims.

Unity had left its base to merge with Howell, who had by now transformed and revealed himself to be a being like Unity. Supergirl prevented the fusion, and set the creature ablaze with a gas canister. As Superman fought Howell, Unity slowly burned to death.

Both Reverend Howell and Unity shared similarities with Franklin Harris and his hippy cult, who are completely obsessed with the concept of oneness.
