Cryptosporidium, or Crypto for short, is the protagonist of the Destroy All Humans! series. He is an agent of the Furon Empire who was sent to Earth in order to collect human brain stems in order to maintain the survival of his species. He is the former subordinate of Orthopox.
He was voiced by J. Grant Albrecht in DAH, DAH 2, and DAH 4: Path of the Furon (Who also voiced The End in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.). He was voiced by Sean Donnellan in DAH 3: Big Willy. In Japanese, he was voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi (Sonic the Hedgehog's Japanese voice actor in two of the three cartoons).
Biography[]
Cryptosporidium-136[]
The first Crypto clone to appear in the game is sent to Earth to find Furon DNA to save his race but is accidentally shot down by a missile in Area 42. He tries to resist capture after crashing, but he collapses in front of several soldiers. His weapons and saucer are taken, allowing the Majestic to develop new weaponry.
Crypto-136 is questioned and dissected, which leads to the unlocking of the Furon genes and leading to the creation of the Majestic's mutants. His capture is the reason that Crypto-137 urges Pox to come to Earth. His remains are later destroyed by Crypto-137, just so no more experiments are committed on his "brother".
Cryptosporidium-137[]
Cryptosporidium-137 first landed on Turnipseed Farm in search for the dominating species on Earth. He headed towards Rockwell in order to infiltrate and investigate human culture, though this led to the discovery of experiments by the military on local cows. Future trips to Santa Modesta and Area 42 led to the discovery of the Majestic.
Crypto-137 also found out about Crypto-136's fate and swore revenge. After destroying most of Area 42, Crypto headed towards Capitol City in order to hunt down General Armquist, but crash-landed in Union Town. Unlike Crypto-136, he survived this experience. After killing Armquist and later assassinating the president, he goes after Silhouette in order to stop the Majestic from interfering with Furon activities.
Following Silhouette's death, Crypto-137 posed as the deceased President Huffman and gained control of the United States. He then proceeded to use this power in order to convince the people of the Earth that the commies caused all this trouble, which is simply a ploy used to attain more brain stems.
This incarnation of Crypto is the most violent, and talks in an almost-monotonous voice most of the time. He died sometime before 1969, but it was stated in the lines of Destroy All Humans Big Willy Unleashed that Crypto-137 was the main playable character of the Wii game, but this is incorrect; it is actually Crypto-138, as Crypto-137 was confirmed dead in the intro of Destroy All Humans! 2.
Cryptosporidium-138[]
Cryptosporidium-138 was active from 1969 to sometime before 1979. He was the first Furon to have fully functional genitalia, which made some drastic changes in his personality. KGB spies found out about the Furon control over the United States, and thus planned Crypto-138's assassination in Bay City and the destruction of the mothership. Crypto escaped with Orthopox, now dubbed Holopox, and began a quest to bring down the KGB.
Crypto was forced to cooperate with Russian spies Natalya Ivanova and Sergei, who wanted to uncover a conspiracy hidden within the KGB. With Crypto's help, the Blisk were discovered, along with their plan to bombard the Earth with nukes in order to remake it into ancient Mars. Crypto was finally able to destroy all the Blisk, though it came at the cost of the lives of his former allies. He ended up cloning Natalya and fathering a son.
During his campaign, Crypto-138 was replaced as president by a robot that Orthopox had built. This Crypto is very different to Crypto-137, showing a humorous side and making jokes, usually either offensive or sexual. Also, Crypto-138 is the only Crypto in any of the games with a love interest (Natalya), who he loved to the point of cloning instead of Holopox.
During the 1970s, Crypto-138 had left presidency, married then dumped Natalya, and moved to Harbor City, spending his days watching television. He was brought back into service when he found out about Orthopox's fast food franchise, Big Willy's. His new mission was to protect the restaurant's secret ingredient, human corpses, from being exposed to the public.
These plans then changed to destroying the competition, Colonel Kluckin. He also encountered his son, Blastomycosis, and met the phony Furon Effiency Expert, Toxoplasma Gondii, sending him back to the Homeworld. Following Kluckin's defeat, Crypto was given money by Orthopox, collected from the Big Willy's profits. He intended to open a casino in Nevada.
Cryptosporidium-139[]
This clone was created in the mid to late 1970s after Crypto-138 crashed the saucer while drunk. After the crash, Crypto-139 opened a casino known as the Space Dust to use as a front to gather DNA. He became native. He also went to war with a local mob family known as the Molinari Brothers, who owned the casino Nero's Palazzo.
After ruining the Molinari's businesses in Las Paradiso and their connections to the Italian Mafia, Crypto-139 and the casino are attacked by Nexo warriors, and after defeating them, destroys multiple buildings, including Nero's Palazzo and the Space Dust. After traveling to Sunnywood, he attempts to get to Curt Calvin, leader of an alien church, who he believes is trying to botch Crypto's mission.
After making 'first contact' with the humans of Sunnywood, Curt is revealed to be a human and Crypto is attacked by more Nexos. After defeating them, he is shot with a dart and brought to Shen Long, where he gets his answers from a Furon Kung Fu master, known as The Master. This "Master" trains Crypto-139 in psychokinesis. This training allows Crypto to harness the full power of the Temporal Fist, allowing him to create a much more powerful PK push while Time Stop is active.
After his training, The Master gets Crypto to chase down Saxon's right-hand man, Rolo (often pronounced Roro by locals and Crypto) to get The Master's Jade Talisman. After retrieving the Talisman, The Monastery is attacked and defended. Crypto then takes the fight to Saxon, destroying his businesses. The Master then tells Crypto to hold a tournament to lure out Saxon, only to trick Crypto into letting The Master fight Saxon himself. Saxon then kills The Master and Crypto then chases Saxon.
Saxon then pulls out his ultimate weapon, a Nexos Dragon, and fights Crypto. After his defeat, Crypto is surrounded by more Nexos and Saxon reveals he has no idea what they are. After Saxon is killed, Crypto and Pox escape and head to Belleville, France, in order to get to Francodyne, a company Pox believes are cloning the Nexos on Earth. Crypto still ends up with loose ends, and finally returns home to find some answers. After realizing that Meningitis has created artificial Furon DNA, he is enraged due to his mission being pointless.
During this, Pox retrieves a new body from a Furon cloner and ends up having the body of a monkey. After he kills Meningitis, the Jade Talisman is revealed to be a one-off cloning device, cloning The Master. It is revealed to him that his old Master was the true cause of his issues The Master is then defeated with ease after Orthopox, with his new monkey body, flicks him into a wall, killing him instantly. His commander, Orthopox, then ascends the throne and Crypto returns to Earth to continue his mission, after learning that the Furon DNA doesn't work.
Overview[]
Crypto is on the mission to harvest human DNA in order to save his race from cloning themselves into extinction. Along the way, he investigates the disappearance of his clone predecessor, Cryptosporidium-136, uncover and foil a dastardly government conspiracy.
The game is set in the 1950s and parodies the Cold War era hysteria as well as B-Movies: in fact when Crypto is spotted by certain humans they call him a "commie" - suggesting that despite his hideous appearance these people actually believe his is a Communist rather than an alien.
Crypto is knowledgeable yet also a very comical character in the fact he has little real knowledge on humanity - although he is quick to express his dislike of them, which is not really surprising considering he is part of a warlike species who are already in possession of advanced weaponry sufficient to destroy entire cities.
Crypto talks in a very slow and emotionless Texan accent. He also hates being called green (he clearly isn't).
As Crypto the player has an arsenal of such weaponry to utilize against the humans (both innocents as well as such enemies as the military and Men In Black) - when his weapons fail him Crypto can enter his large flying saucer and use it to destroy anything in his path: though the most mayhem Crypto causes the more humanity will fight back and alert more powerful enemies to his location.
Crypto is responsible for detonating an atom bomb at a high-scale military base, the equivalent of an Area 51.
In the intro for the first game, the 136th Cryptosporidium clone is seen dying after crashing his saucer; the entire game is canonically played by Cryptosporidium-137, who later also dies before the events of the second game. The canon protagonist of the second and third games is Cryptosporidium-138, whilst Cryptosporidium-139 is the player-character of the fourth game. The status and identity of the original Cryptosporidium are unknown.
At the end of the second game, Cryptosporidium-138 has intercourse with "the love of his life", a human KGB spy named Natalya Ivanova. In the third game, Crypto discovers that he'd somehow gotten her pregnant, as he finds out that he has a half-human, half-Furon son named Blastomycosis.
Appearance[]
Crypto is a grey alien with black eyes and sharp teeth. In the first two games (and their remasters), Crypto's eyes are reflective. In Big Willy and Path of the Furon, his eyes are black with reddish pupils.
Powers and Tech[]
- Crypto is able to HoloBob, which means that he can transform into any human he sees (beware though as this drains energy and when energy runs out he will revert to alien-form).
- Crypto is telekinetic and can lift people in the air and push small vehicles with his mind alone.
- Crypto is telepathic and can take over and read the minds of others - this can be useful for distracting people or to extract information.
- Force-Field (Crypto is protected by a force-field throughout the game - this shield absorbs damage but if it breaks Crypto is left extremely vulnerable: if he can escape fast enough he can evade an otherwise quick death and the shield will repower itself).
- Rocket-Pack (Crypto has a small rocket-pack attached to his suit that can propel him in the air for a limited amount of time).
