~ Brad Gurdlinger to David Clarke.

Brad Gurdlinger is the overarching antagonist of the 2013 American comedy film We're the Millers.

He was portrayed by Ed Helms who also played Andy Bernard in The Office, the Once-Ler in The Lorax, Number Two in Meet Dave, and Benjamin Krupp in Captain Underpants.

History[]

Brad Gurdlinger is David Clark's former college roommate where they sold pot together from their dorm room, which eventually led them to become drug dealers. While Brad became a wealthy drug lord, David became a lowly drug dealer that had to answer to him.

Brad had his men bring David to him after he hasn't returned his calls. Upon hearing that drug junkies robbed him of the drugs he was selling as well as the money David was going to give him, Brad forcibly hired David to smuggle marijuana out of Mexico back to Colorado Springs in Colorado, USA by posing as an agent of a notorious Mexican drug lord named Pablo Chacon since his usual errand guy died on the job. This way, Brad would reward David and get him out of debt. In doing so, he stirred the wrath and resentment of said drug lord.

While David and his fake family were away, it is revealed that Brad had expected him to fail the smuggling attempt. He vexatiously made satires to David through the phone, goading him into putting all the effort into returning with the quantity of weed to him when he was contacted on the status of the mission.

At the end, when David finally completes Brad's task, Brad is thrilled, but perfidiously he reveals that he never intended to reward him his money. Suddenly, DEA breach the building and seizes him (including his companions) thanks to David's help out, Don Fitzgerald. Brad is then taken into custody for his crimes.

David and his makeshift family had to enter witness protection pending the trial of Gurdlinger and Chacon.

Trivia[]

  • Brad is a hidden villain because he seemed like a friendly guy at first, and remained this way even after he turned out to be a backstabbing prick. Despite sharing the role of main antagonist with Chacon, he had bigger plans than Chacon and was in fact using David to put Chacon out of business.
  • Since David did deliver the drugs to Brad's estate, and since Pablo Chacon was defeated, Brad actually did succeed in his goals; he just never got to enjoy it.
