Canon Continuity

Early life

Following the Invasion of Naboo, an army of clones was secretly commissioned on Kamino by Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas, who he believed would be necessary to protect the Galactic Republic. The army however, was part of a Sith plot to overthrow the Republic and destroy the Jedi Order. Prior to his creation process, the bounty hunter Jango Fett was recruited by the Sith Lord Darth Tyrannus. Jango was to be the genetic blueprint for the clone army. Jango agreed to be the model for the clone troopers in exchange for a significant payment, as well as another request: the creation of a clone that had not been genetically modified to alter its behavior or growth time. Kaminoan scientists created this clone, whom Jango raised as his son and named Boba Fett.

As a child, Boba was raised on Kamino by his father, who taught Boba many of the skills he had learned as a bounty hunter. Boba learned combat and survival skills, and mastered the use of the blaster. He also learned how to operate the weapon systems of his father's ship, the Slave I, and became familiar with members of the Kaminoan government.

Attack of the Clones

In the days of the Old Republic, 10-year-old Boba Fett and his father, Jango Fett, were approached by Obi-Wan Kenobi on the planet Kamino. Boba was an unaltered clone of his father. During the battle at the landing platform, Jango told him to get on board the Slave I while his father engaged Obi-Wan in combat.

Later on in the Asteroid Field, the Fetts make advanced maneuvers against Obi-Wan and escape to the planet Geonosis. Later, the first battle of the Clone Wars erupted in the arena and Boba took cover. During the battle, Jedi Master Mace Windu fought and killed Jango by decapitating him, horrifying Boba. After the battle was over, Boba emerged from his hiding place and picked up his father's helmet and put it against his forehead, swearing revenge.

After his father's death, and the defeat of the Separatists on Geonosis, Boba somehow escaped from Geonosis and began plotting revenge against Mace Windu for killing his father. At some point during the Clone Wars, Boba teamed up with three other bounty hunters named Aurra Sing, Bossk, and Castas, to get revenge.

Later, Boba infiltrated the Venator-class Star Destroyer Endurance as a member of the clone youth brigade under the alias "Lucky". Upon arrival, the Brigade participated in a shooting drill, which Boba passed with flying colors. Afterwards, Boba slipped away from the group and lied to two clones that Windu, who was stationed onboard the ship, had called him to his quarters, and the clones took him there and left.

After the clones left, Boba placed a laser tripwire bomb outside of Windu's quarters, but a clone trooper inadvertently triggered the explosive and was killed instead of Windu. After the Endurance was placed on high alert, Sing contacted Boba and ordered him to destroy the ship's reactor core, which he reluctantly agreed.

Boba then snuck into the reactor room, where he coaxed a clone into handing him his blaster. Using the blaster, Boba destroyed the reactor and severely damaged it. Boba then regrouped with the clone youth brigade and they escaped in an escape pod.

Upon ejection, Boba disabled the pod, allowing Sing and the other bounty hunters to pick him up in the Slave I. After discovering Windu was still alive, Boba and the other bounty hunters flew the Slave I down to the Endurance's crash site on planet Vanquor. Sing and Boba went to the crash site where Boba placed his father's helmet in the Endurance's bridge rigged with an explosive to trap Windu while Sing killed every clone who survived the crash except Admiral Killian, Commander Ponds, and a naval officer, who she took hostage.

By the time they had returned to the Slave I with the hostages, Windu had arrived with Anakin Skywalker to investigate the crash site. Windu and Anakin triggered the helmet trap but survived and the resulting explosion incinerated half of Jango Fett's helmet and pinned the two Jedi under the rubble.

Sing and Boba wanted to check if Mace was dead so they returned to the crash site with Castas, leaving Bossk behind to guard the hostages. The trio attempted to reach the bridge but were foiled by R2-D2, Anakin's astromech droid, who pushed debris in the way of the hunters. Boba, Sing, and Castas returned to the Slave I and noticed R2 fleeing in Windu's starfighter, who was attempting to send a distress signal to planet Coruscant exposing Boba's actions. Boba and the other bounty hunters pursued R2 in the Slave I.

R2 lured the hunters into space where it attempted to use the hyperdrive rings to escape. Boba destroyed one of the hyperdrive rings, but R2 used the second ring to escape to Coruscant. Boba was reassured by Aurra that she would lure Windu to them using the hostages and the Slave I blasted off into space. Later, on board the Slave I, Boba saw that the hostages had nothing to do with his quest for vengeance against Mace and showed Killian compassion by giving him water.

Later, Sing and Boba sent a message to Windu and told him to find them or they would kill the hostages and Sing handed Boba his blaster and ordered him to kill Ponds, but when Boba refused, Sing killed the commander herself. Boba and the fugitives arrived on planet Florrum in hopes of enlisting the help of a gang of pirates who lived there led by Hondo Ohnaka against Windu. Hondo refused but also promised not to stand in their way. Later, Sing overheard a conversation between Castas and a fellow hunter and referred to Sing as an old hag, who then killed Castas in front of a horrified Fett.

Later, Boba and Sing came across Jedi Plo Koon and discussed about the hostages. Boba emerged from the shadows and held Koon at gunpoint while Anakin's Padawan, Ahsoka Tano held her lightsaber at Sing's throat. After a brief standoff, Koon captured Boba and Sing, stole a speeder bike and escaped, but was pursued by Ahsoka. Meanwhile, Koon interrogated Fett into revealing the location of the hostages, to which Boba refused. Eventually, Hondo helped Koon by convincing Boba to reveal the hostages' location, telling him what his father would have done. Meanwhile, Ahsoka defeated Sing and Bossk before rescuing the hostages. After rescuing the hostages and seemingly killing Sing, Boba and Bossk were arrested by Koon and Ahsoka and brought to Coruscant, where Boba and Bossk met Windu. Boba vowed that he would never forgive Windu for what he had done and was taken to prison with Bossk.

Later, Boba was paid by Cad Bane to start a fight with fellow inmate Rako Hardeen, who was actually Obi-Wan Kenobi in disguise. When Boba was quickly overpowered by Obi-Wan, Bossk joined in the fight. The clone trooper guards arrived and a riot broke out in the prison. Rako and Bane escaped amidst the chaos.

After being released from prison, Boba started a bounty hunter syndicate with Bossk.

Lucasfilm was planning on making two more seasons of the show. Featuring Boba teaming up with Cad Bane, donning his trademark armor and assisting a group of bounty hunters, trying to kill or capture Count Dooku. Unfortunately, due to Disney's purchase of the Star Wars rights, these plans for the show were canceled. However, those stories were implemented into a series of canon novels.

A New Hope 20th Anniversary Director's Cut

In the 1997 director's cut, Boba Fett is briefly seen in Docking Bay 94 along with the rest of Jabba the Hutt's cronies. He is last seen standing there before Jabba himself tells him to get moving. In this movie, he has no speaking lines. This scene was only seen in the Special Edition version.

Bounty for the Dark Lord

Shortly after the Battle of Yavin, Boba was present in Jabba's palace when the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader showed up to negotiate a deal with the Hutt Clan on behalf of Emperor Palpatine. However, the Sith came a day ahead of schedule for personal reasons. Although wary of Vader, Jabba ordered his court to leave them alone. The Sith Lord revealed that he needed the services of two of Jabba's best bounty hunters. After testing Vader, they struck a deal and Jabba instructed Boba and the Wookiee Black Krrsantan to go meet Darth Vader.

Later that day, Boba and Krrsantan found Vader in the desert. The Sith asked them if they were the best bounty hunters of the Hutt and had to settle for verbal confirmation from Fett. Darth Vader gave them each a mission. Boba was to capture a Rebel Alliance pilot seen with Obi-Wan Kenobi and having left Tatooine aboard the Millennium Falcon. Krrsantan was tasked with tracking down an Imperial who had won the favor of the Emperor. Both targets were to be brought back alive. Boba promised that the work would be done (specifying that Krrsantan's prey might be delivered with a few limbs amputated). The Dark Lord left as soon as the conversation was over and through a camp of Tusken Raiders he had slaughtered earlier.

Boba immediately began to seek information on the young pilot. Knowing that Solo was dating Mos Eisley, he went there first and quickly found a group of four Rodians. The bounty hunter asked them if they knew an individual named Kenobi. The leader of the little gang replied that there was a Kenobi living away in the Sea of Dunes and that it was only a deranged old wizard. When he asked Boba why he was looking for him, Boba pointed his blaster rifle, replied that Kenobi was dead and that he was the only one asking questions.

When the Rodians had proved their worthlessness, Boba killed them and began to scour Tatooine in search of people who could help him in his mission. His quest led him to interrogate and kill several Jawas and a damp farming family. While he still had not obtained any information worthy of the name, Boba arrived at the cantina of Chalmun.

Boba managed to get the customers' attention and warned them that he would not leave the establishment without the pilot's name. Faced with the silence of the assembly, he threatened an Ithorien. A voice came from behind the room calling the bounty hunter a child. Boba asked to know the individual who had insulted him and could discover a humanoid with six arms and a head taller than the bounty hunter. Boba quickly took over the individual. He tore off one arm and broke two others. He threatened to break a third if he still didn't get answers. Wuher, the bartender in the cantina told him that they did not know the boy. They only knew that he had come with Kenobi some time before. A damp young farmer in the cantina panicked and tried to flee the establishment. However, Boba captured him using his rope launcher. He then proceeded to his interrogation and the young man revealed to him that the pilot's name was Luke Skywalker sometimes hanging out at Tosche station with Biggs Darklighter. Knowing that he had just heard the truth, Boba released the boy who "only wanted a drink" before shooting him in the chest.

Boba left the cantina and headed for Ben Kenobi's house which was in the Jundland Desert and waited for Skywalker to show up. A group of Tusken Raiders attacked the deceased Kenobi's belongings, but Skywalker and his astromech droid routed them. Boba approached the house when the Jedi and his droid stepped inside. He threw a flash grenade which bypassed R2 and blinded Skywalker.

The bounty hunter then struck Skywalker in the head with the butt, who responded with a punch. However, his blow hit the plates of Boba's Mandalorian armor and the young Jedi suffered more than his opponent. Realizing that the bounty hunter was trying to capture him alive, Skywalker armed himself with his lightsaber. Boba pointed out to him that he needed him alive and that he could very well be content to carry him to his ship if the young man refused to cooperate. Using the Force, Skywalker was able to cut the lasso sent by Boba's rope launcher. The blow nearly hit the bounty hunter's helmet. The duel was of rare violence and Boba charged Skywalker after the latter managed to deflect a blaster shot with his saber. They struggled for a moment to grab the lightsaber. While Boba was gaining the upper hand, Skywalker used the Force without realizing it to throw the metal box found on his opponent's head before Boba attacked the Jedi. Still stunned by the fight, Skywalker preferred to leave without asking for his rest and asked R2 to guide him to his hunter.

Once he regained consciousness, Boba took Slave I to report to his employer aboard his Star Destroyer. He told Vader that the boy was lucky and managed to escape. The Sith Lord expressed his disappointment and asked Boba if he had reported anything of value. The bounty hunter told him that he had discovered his name: Skywalker. Vader remained silent and Boba came to the conclusion that they had done business. Without realizing it, the bounty hunter had just told Darth Vader that he had a son.

The Empire Strikes Back

In Boba's official debut, during the time of the empire, Anakin, who is now the Sith Lord Darth Vader, gives Fett the mission of capturing his son, Luke Skywalker.

In order to carry out this task, Boba captures Luke's allies Han Solo, Princess Leia Organa (who is actually Luke's sister and Vader's daughter), the Wookiee Chewbacca, and C-3PO (the protocol droid Anakin built when he was a kid). After Lando Calrissian introduces them to Cloud City, Vader decides to test the carbon-freezing chamber as part of his plan to bring Luke to Emperor Palpatine.

Boba was unfamiliar with carbon-freezing, became concerned that it can cause death and kept demanding Vader to not kill Han, claiming that the smuggler is worth a great deal of money to him that Jabba will pay up for as a reward for catching and bringing him in.

Vader wanted to use Han nonetheless as practice for carbon-freezing as he needed a human test subject (and refused to use his own daughter Leia), assured Boba that the Empire will compensate him a great deal of money, should Han die. This satisfied Boba. Suddenly, Chewbacca went on a rampage trying to resist the stormtroopers, prompting Boba to aim his blaster at Chewbacca before Vader swings his weapon back down, signaling Boba to refrain from doing so.

After the carbon freeze is successful on Han, Vader then gave him to Boba to deliver to Jabba for the bounty reward.

Return of the Jedi

Later, it shows Fett had stayed for parties hosted by Jabba the Hutt. He accompanied Jabba to Han, Luke and Chewbacca's execution aboard the sail barge. During the chaos of the heroes' escape, Fett briefly engaged Luke himself when he reclaimed his lightsaber and started fighting his way through Jabba's thugs. However, he eventually ends up in the sarlacc pit after Han accidentally punctures a hole in his jetpack, which causes him to crash into the side of the sail barge and subsequently tumble down into it.

The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett

Trapped inside the sarlacc Fett was able to activate a light and found an Imperial stormtrooper in the process of being digested by the Sarlacc. Hooking up his flamethrower to the stormtrooper's oxygen supply Fett was able to burn his way through the sarlacc's belly and escape back to the surface. Exhausted, Fett laid on the ground next to wreckage of the sail barge. A tribe of Jawas soon happened upon the wreckage. Finding Fett they stripped him of his armor and left him for dead.

A short time later a tribe of Tusken Raiders came by to investigate the wreckage. Finding Fett, they took him prisoner. Fett was later freed when he helped an adolescent take a large creature that lived near a moisture farm, saving the young raider's life in the process.

Boba Fett unmasked in The Mandalorian

About five years later Fett found the assassin Fennec Shand left for dead on Tattooine and saved her life. In return Shand became his assistant. Fett witnessed a Mandalorian from afar speeding off with the armor in question and tracked the Mandalorian to Tython, where he saved the Mandalorian from Moff Gideon's forces. He then helped the Mandalorian rescue the child Grogu from the clutches of Gideon's imperial remmnant. Once the child had been rescued, Fett and Shand returned to Tattooine. Killing Jabba's majordomo Bib Fortuna, Fett took Fortuna's place as one of the primary daimyo, or feudal lords of Tattooine.

Legends Continuity

Although the final film seems to imply Boba's death in the Sarlacc Pit, he is actually saved by another bounty hunter, Dengar. Boba eventually even becomes Manda'lor, the title bestowed upon the leader of the Mandalorians.

As an old man, Boba and his granddaughter Mitra Gev allied with Fett's former enemy Han Solo in killing Corellian leader Thrackan Sal-Solo after Sal-Solo posted a bounty on Solo and his entire family.

Later, Boba, along with Gev and many other Mandalorians, trained Jaina Solo to bring down her brother Darth Caedus, the Sith who murdered Fett's daughter Ailyn Vel. During this time, Boba allied with his former enemies Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, as well as a former Imperial admiral, Natasi Daala, who succeeds Caedus as leader of the Galactic Alliance.

Despite being defeated, the Imperial Moffs who had allied with Darth Caedus ensured that Boba, Gev, and the few remaining [clone troopers could never return to their adopted homeworld of Mandalore after they created a nanovirus to target the Fett genome and dumped it into the atmosphere of Mandalore.

Allying himself with Natasi Daala, Fett worked to find a way to remove the nanokiller from Mandalore's atmosphere so he and his family could return home.
