The T-1s are minor antagonists in the Rise of the Machines and Salvation Timelines of the Terminator franchise.

As their name suggests, they are the very first series of Terminators to be ever created, and were used by Skynet to clear battlefields of enemy troops with their powerful weaponry. Their design also served as the template for the HK-Tanks.

History[]

Rise of the Machines Timeline[]

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines[]

On Judgement Day, July 24, 2004, about two dozens of T-1s were activated and reprogrammed by the T-X when it infiltrated Cyber Research Systems HQ at Edwards Air Force Base. The T-1s killed every human in sight in order to protect Skynet that was uploading at the time, including all of their leader's creators. One of them was destroyed by the T-850 sent to protect John Connor and Kate Brewster, with one of it's minigun being used to the destroy several others.

It's assumed that sometime after Judgement Day, they became obsolete, and Skynet stopped producing them and shuting down the ones that were still functional once they outlived their usefulness.

Salvation Timeline[]

Terminator Salvation[]

The T-1s' backstory in this timeline is most likely shared with their Rise of the Machines Timeline counterparts, albeit happening in 2003 instead of 2004.

In the year 2018, Skynet still used the T-1s, improving the units with larger torsos, the heads have been lowered and more armored, their sensors have all been combined into two "eyes" and the entire units resembled heavily armored tanks. The T-1s were mainly used to guard Skynet's important facilities and prisoners, such as Skynet VLA and Skynet Central, they have not been seen in the field. Some units did have mud encrusted on their shells though, suggesting they might be still used in the field to kill humans if they fight back along with the T-600s, but in a limited fashion.

A T-1 appeared out of water while trying to trap Resistance fighters at Skynet VLA, but was destroyed by John Connor and his allies. Sometime after 2018, the T-1s became obsolete, and Skynet stopped producing them and shuting down the still functioning ones once they outlived their usefulness, much like their Rise of the Machines Timeline counterparts.

Description[]

Design[]

Sensory[]

The T-1s are equipped with an on-board radar for locating targets. They are capable of identifying and eliminating multiple targets. They possess sensors of sound, heat, and motion. A target can avoid possible detection. If a target remains motionless and quiet or masks their body heat, they won't be detected by the T-1s.

Defense[]

The outer structure of the T-1s is strong and durable. The robots' entire internal mechanics aren't covered by the structure. The T-1s' heads and necks assembly are exposed, rendering them vulnerable to attacks. The wiring of the extended arms is exposed and are also vulnerable to attacks.

Weaponry[]

Each side of the T-1 is equipped with a mini gun that fires 3,000 rounds of .50 Caliber ammunition per minute. The guns are directed by the robots' on board radar. The T-1s are deployed in a crouched position but they may rise to eight feet during combat. The T-1s are also capable of fully rotating 360 degrees. Enemies are targeted by a laser via the T-1s' sensors.

Maneuverability[]

The T-1s are designed to travel through any terrain regardless of conditions. They move entirely on wheels similar to army tanks. The wheels are capable of moving over loose rubble. The speed of the T-1s is slow which is compensated by their immense firepower.

Trivia[]

  • The T-1s from Terminator Salvation were once referred as T-100 by McG. It is unknown if this is merely an error, or the Salvation Timeline version of T-1s are actually an updated/upgraded version called T-100, especially since they have been redesigned.
  • There is a concept art of the HK-Tanks for Salvation. The HK-Tanks from the Salvation Timeline resemble the T-1s in the film. Note that instead of plasma weaponry, the HK-Tank in the concept art is mounted with miniguns just as well as the T-1.
  • The concept of T-835 may originate from the T-1, with a tank tread as lower body while miniguns as it's arms.
  • The T-1s bears a resemblance to the War Machines in a Doctor Who story of the same name. Although the War Machine is simpler in design, the two have a similar shape: both have firearms mounted onto the top-left and right on their structures and numerical designations can be seen on the T-1. Also, like the T-1s, the War Machines are the weapons of a self-aware supercomputer that has turned against humans, WOTAN.
  • A scene of a T-1 attacking John's group at Skynet VLA was shown in the trailers for Terminator Salvation, but was cut.
