Efraim Diveroli is the main antagonist of the 2016 biopic film War Dogs.

He was portrayed by Jonah Hill, who also played Tighten, Donnie Azoff and even himself in This is the End.

Biography[]

Efraim is the childhood friend of the protagonist, David Packouz (played by Miles Teller). He and David were best friends in high school, but after their parents separated them, he went on to work for his uncle selling guns and eventually started his own company called AEY Inc. A now grown-up Efraim returns to Los Angeles and reunites with David, and offers him a job at AEY, which David agrees to after learning that his girlfriend is pregnant. The two friends go into business together bidding on small-time military contracts and make a fortune off of it.

Eventually, David and Efraim land a $300 million deal to supply the United States military with 100 million rounds of AK-47 ammunition, known as The Afghan Deal. However, as time goes on, Efraim becomes power-hungry and starts betraying people, even going so far as to destroy his partnership agreement with David. When David returns to Miami and severs the partnership, demanding a percentage from The Afghan Deal, Efraim refuses to pay him. At the end of the film, they both get arrested, and Efraim is sentenced to four years in prison.

Personality[]

Efraim is a loose cannon and a manipulative individual who will say whatever it takes to get what he wants. He is also petty and greedy (for example, he fired an employee just for correcting him on what IBM stands for) and a bit of backstabber, as shown when he planned to cut Henry Girard out of the deal after discovering that Henry had overcharged them for the AK-47 ammunition and betrayed David after David stood up to him, which put a huge rift in their friendship.
