Villain Overview

For I am Devimon, ultimate ruler of the demon underworld. You must obey my every command.
~ Devimon

Devimon, known as Darkmon in Japanese version, is one of the main antagonists in the Digimon universe. He serves as the main antagonist of the first arc of the Digimon Adventure anime, as well as the 2020 reboot, as leader of the Dark Digimon. Devimon is also a minor antagonist in Digimon Adventure 02 and a major antagonist in Digimon Fusion.

He is a Champion-level Digimon, although a very powerful one, rivaled only by Angemon. He is also capable of digivolving into the Ultimate-level NeoDevimon, and then into animalistic Mega-level DanDevimon.

Biography[]

Digimon Adventure 01[]

Devimon discovered the Black Gears and implanted them in good Digimon to turn them evil. Victims included Meramon, Andromon, Monzaemon, Unimon, Frigimon, Mojyamon, Centarumon, Whamon, and Drimogemon. The most notable of his victims was Leomon; while Leomon and Ogremon were fighting, Devimon commanded them to work for him. It took little convincing to get Ogremon on his side; however, Leomon was a good Digimon so he refused to work for Devimon and attacked him, until Devimon used the Touch of Evil to brainwash Leomon, turning him evil.

As the Digidestined were inside the imaginary hotel (created by Devimon), Devimon prepares his henchmen to attack the Digidestined. Tai and Agumon were eventually cornered by Ogremon and the brainwashed Leomon, and also confronted by Devimon. Devimon then shattered the imaginary hotel to pieces and used his power to break File Island apart and scatter it all over the sea. The brainwashed Leomon attempts to take Tai out, but a Digivice fell and flashed at Leomon, managing to free him from Devimon’s control. Devimon tries to send the Digidestined and their Digimon to their doom, but Leomon attacks Devimon, saving them from their deaths. While Leomon helps Tai and Agumon escape from Devimon, the demon brainwashes Leomon again. After fighting off several Digimon, most of them victims of the Black Gears, the Digidestined (minus Joe and Sora) fought Leomon at Primary Village, where Leomon was attacked by more Black Gears, making him bigger and stronger. But they drove all the evil out with their Digivices. Leomon told them that the only way to restore File Island to normal was to defeat Devimon.

Naturally, the Digidestined chose to attack him. Back at his secret Castle atop Infinity Mountain, Devimon absorbed Ogremon and all the Black Gears, transforming into a much bigger form. Although they were able to get some shots in, Devimon gained the advantage over all of them, using powers of pure evil. Leomon was sent flying far away by Ogremon, who kept on jumping out of Devimon's chest. Devimon eventually turned to TK, whose Digimon Patamon had not participated in the fight due to his inability to Digivolve.

It was said that the smallest Digidestined would destroy him, so Devimon tried to crush TK but Patamon jumped in front of him and was caught in Devimon's fist. However, it was at that moment that Patamon Digivolved into Angemon. In the classic angel vs devil battle, Angemon knocked Ogremon out of Devimon and put all his power into a Hand of Fate attack, which he used to destroy Devimon. As he was dying, he warns Angemon that more evil is everywhere and laughs one last time. Angemon was destroyed as well, but was reborn as a Digi-egg. The next time he became Angemon again was to fight the even more sinister Myotismon.

Digimon Adventure 02[]

When the Digimon Emperor extracts DNA from Digimon to make Kimeramon, he enters the Dark Whirlpool, where he finds the broken remains of Devimon (who is said to have created the Whirlpool) and absorbs him, ignoring his warning that he cannot control the power of darkness. The Dark Whirlpool is believed to be caused by Devimon. Devimon's voice continues to taunt the Digimon Emperor, and his influence causes Kimeramon to rebel against him, but he is once again destroyed when Magnamon obliterates Kimeramon.

The exact nature of his reappearance is unclear. It could be that, like Wizardmon and Myotismon, he became a ghost after his death and haunted the ocean, creating the whirlpool via the powers of darkness. It is also possible that the Dark Whirlpool leads to the Dark Area (Digimon hell), and Devimon somehow opened the portal from within (supported by the ghostly apparitions appearing in the whirlpool).

Digimon Adventure tri.[]

Future[]

When the Digimon Emperor summoned Devimon to attack MagnaAngemon.

Digimon Fusion[]

In Digimon Fusion, an army of Devimon served one of the Dark Generals; NeoMyotismon, along with his female version, LadyDevimon. they along with the army of LadyDevimon were absorbed by NeoMyotismon so NeoMyotismon could become NeoMyotismon Darkness Mode and they were all destroyed along with the LadyDevimons when NeoMyotismon was destroyed by Shoutmon DX.

Digimon Adventure (2020)[]

Devimon serves as a major antagonist in the reboot of Digimon Adventure, and serves as one of the Dark Digimon serving Millenniummon. He was originally a fragment of Seraphimon that splintered off during his captivity by Millenniummon's followers, causing him to regress to Angemon while the fully manifested Devimon sought to corrupt his other half. Among his servants are Ogremon and SkullKnightmon.

Devimon first appears as a silhouette talking to Ogremon to attack the Digidestined. During the fight with Greymon and Ogremon, Devimon sends a miasma-controlled MetalTyrannomon to attack the Digidestined.

After Nidhoggmon's destruction, Devimon appears as a fragment of sand to mock the Yamato and Taichi and sends the other Digidestined back to Real World in Tokyo. He sends SkullKnight along with his other agents, Velgemon and Calmaramon to deal with Yamato and Taichi and their Digimon partners (Calmaramon actually to deal with the other DigiDestined Digimon partners).

After Velgemon was defeated, Devimon summons Splashmon to deal With Yamato, Taichi, Takeru, and their Digimon partners while SkullKnightmon takes the opportunity to seal Angemon’s Digi-Egg inside Devimon's castle (which later turns out to be ElDradimon. With Splashmon destroyed by MetalGreymon, Taichi, Yamato, Takeru, Agumon, and Gabumon arrive to Devimon's tower and come face to face with SkullKnightmon. Devimon supports SkullKnightmon by digivolving her into AxeKnightmon. After WereGarurumon and Angemon's Digi-egg's light obliterates AxeKnightmon, Devimon decides to confront the Digidestined.

Devimon seems to have the upper hand against MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon, and Millenniummon transforms him into NeoDevimon. NeoDevimon puts up an even greater fight against MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon, but thanks to the remaining Digidestined’s partner Digimon who manage to destroy the obelisk inside the Network, NeoDevimon becomes weakened and was beaten by MetalGreymon’s Giga Destoyer attack. However, AxeKnightmon (who has survived the wreckage of the tower from earlier) uses Moon=Millenniummon’s\ power to the wounded NeoDevimon and Digivolve him to DanDevimon.

Taichi and Yamato, MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon assault DanDevimon. Taichi pushes Yamato off of MetalGreymon to protect him from being possessed. MetalGreymon and Taichi get possessed, causing them both to go berserk and fight harder against DanDevimon. Despite those attempted efforts, the possessed Taichi manages to be devoured by DanDevimon. Enraged, MetalGreymon dark Digivolves briefly to a corrupted glowing red, cannon-less Machinedramon and attacks DanDevimon in fury, but DanDevimon still seems to have the upper hand. Tokomon, having had enough of Agumon’s suffering and briefly warp digivolves to Angemon to stop Agumon’s rampage. Agumon warp digivolves into a glowing light figure version of WarGreymon to defeat DanDevimon, freeing Taichi and saving his life.

Sometime later, while Taichi and the other Digidestined with their partners are trapped in a weird dimension by Sakkakumon, Devimon is resurrected by Sakkakumon where he confronts Takeru and Angemon. Devimon reveals his origins as Angemon's other self and that he will still exist as long as Angemon exists because he was an entity.

Angemon and Devimon engage in a fight and seemingly defeats him, but Devimon regenerates as a gigantic figure of himself and creates clones of himself to overpower Angemon. Devimon almost manages to succeed in corrupting Angemon into a miniature NeoDevimon to attack Takeru, but Takeru’s hope rescues him and frees him from the corruption. Angemon finally manages to defeat Devimon by absorbing him, regaining his full power as he Digivolves into MagnaAngemon to collapse the dimension of Sakkakumon. But Devimon's consciousness lingers within Patamon, wanting to see if despair overshadows hope.

Devimon later appears to Takeru and Patamon in a dream to warn them that he can sense Negamon's awakening. Addressing Patamon as his old friend and switching between his Rookie, Champion, Ultimate and Mega forms, Devimon warns them that he can sense the "sound that once drove the world mad" happening again and that when the Great Catastrophe comes, it will suck up everything into a white void, including both hope and despair. Despite their confidence, Devimon doesn't believe that even the Digidestined can stop what's coming. At the end of the conversation, DoneDevimon disintegrates into pieces that float away, admitting to Takeru and Patamon that he wants to see them try to stop the Great Catastrophe. After the two reveal the conversation to Hikari and Gatomon, Gatomon recalls that Devimon had been experimenting with digivolution which the Vademon had later used to resurrect Millenniummon and that when Devimon used it himself to become NeoDevimon, it drove him insane. In both cases, it led to nothing but destruction. Gatomon realizes that something else was behind Devimon's actions, pushing everything along from behind the scenes.

After Negamon is released and begins the Great Catastrophe, Takeru and Patamon recall Devimon's warning about the white void that everything will be sucked into.

As the DigiDestined send WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon the power to DNA digivolve into Omnimon, a shadowy image of DanDevimon emerges from Seraphimon and frees him from the clutches of Negamon before turning into Devimon. Devimon declares that he hears the voices resonating beyond the world and gathering hope, declaring that despite the destruction in sight, the light of hope glows bright, creating a miracle. Devimon declares that the whim of those who are shadows must also be the same as SkullKnightmon appears over Ophanimon. As Devimon fades away with a black feather dropping in front of Seraphimon, he calls Seraphimon his dear old friend, realizing that this is the answer that Seraphimon has reached to Devimon's earlier question about whether hope is just as indestructible as despair. And with that, Devimon is gone for good.

Quotes[]

Feel the Touch of Evil!
~ Devimon unleashing his Touch of Evil attack.
Don't expect me to play stupid games with you. I'm far too wise for that.
~ Devimon
You have used up all your power. That wasn't very smart, Angemon! Now you're no use to anyone. You can't get away from the dark forces. Evil is everywhere, so don't savor your victory. There are other Digimon who are just as powerful as I am. Some of them are just stronger. I wonder what you'll do when you run into them. You haven't won at all! What a waste of time! Hahahaha....
~ Devimon laughing evilly as he was dying, also his last words.
Old Friend.
~ Devimon's pet-name for Patamon.
