Cretaceous was a skinny iris Metriorhynchus and Maelstrom was a fat teal Globidens. They are the two main antagonists of the film Ice Age: The Meltdown. They are two sea creatures that were frozen in ice and freed when the ice melted.
They made one role in the film when they tried to eat Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, Crash, and Eddie when they were crossing a frozen area of water. Luckily, they managed to escape. They appear again in the film when Ellie is trapped in the rising flood. When Manny and his friends went to rescue Ellie, Cretaceous and Maelstrom tried to eat them. However, they were tricked into hitting a log wedged between a large rock, which fell on them. but they seem to survied and got sweept with all the water that dran.
In the movie novel Ice Age: The Great Escape, they were not killed from the large rock after all the water was drained there were taken away along with the water and were never seen again all the water went to the ocean the two reptiles live they lives hunting for other prey to eat.

- They both appeared in the Ice Age 2: The Meltdown Wii and DS games as bosses.
- They can also be seen on the ice age village with cretaceous being the main one. It is unknown if Maelstrom will be appearing as well.
- In the app game Ice Age Adventure, you can battle Cretaceous to help Buck get to the other side to meet Granny.
