Claudius is a lion who makes his first and only appearance in the Timon and Pumbaa episode "Rome Alone" where he is pitted against Simba when he is captured by Quint's gladiators. He was the current champion of the Roman Arena. He was due to be pitted against Simba because the lion was seen as weak as he would not devour his friends.
Timon and Pumbaa visit Claudius before the night of the fight and try to stop the conflict from happening. They try blackmail, getting even, ripping out his teeth so he can't fight, feeding him salad, but nothing works.
However, the next day, Claudius falls asleep in battle due to the two disturbing him.

- Claudius' name was probably inspired by King Claudius from William Shakesphere's Hamlet, to whom Scar (the main antagonist of The Lion King) is based from.
- Claudius looks a lot like Scar, as well as Kovu from the sequel The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, minus the cut over his left eye.
- When he falls asleep during the battle, Claudius was shown to be sucking his thumb, just like Prince John from Robin Hood.
