Villain Overview

Oh yeah, you wanna know the forecast? I'll give you the forecast. 100% chance of... THUNDER!!! KA-CHIGA! KA-CHIGA! Say it with me!? Ka-chiga-chiga-chiga!
~ Chick's most famous quote.

Chick "Thunder" Hicks is the main antagonist of Pixar's 7th full-length animated feature film Cars and a minor character in its 2017 threequel Cars 3. He is also the main antagonist of some of the video games.

He is a green race car who appears as the arch-nemesis of Lightning McQueen and Strip Weathers and one of the rivals of McQueen.

He is voiced by Michael Keaton, who also played the title character in Beetlejuice, Carter Hayes in Pacific Heights, Peter McCabe in Desperate Measures, Trip Larsen in King of the Hill, Ken in Toy Story 3, Raymond Sellars in the 2014 RoboCop remake, Ray Kroc in The Founder, the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Morbius and V.A. Vandevere in the live-action Dumbo remake in Cars and its video game adaptation, Eric Smitt in Cars 2: The Video Game, Bob Peterson in Cars 3, and Jude Hilary in Cars 3: Driven To Win.

Personality[]

Although highly talented at racing, Chick Hicks is extremely rude, arrogant, conniving, manipulative, and focused on himself and winning, like McQueen himself, but has grown impatient with losing. He often harasses others with his catchphrase "Ka-chicka." This, along with his ruthless cold-hearted methods, eventually cost him his fans.

During his brief cameo in Cars 3, despite now being a news reporter and hosting his own show, Chick still remains an unpleasant and selfish rude bully. He derides McQueen on TV several times throughout the film for not being as good of a racer as Jackson Storm when the next gen-racers come in and replace the older ones, and once again shows that he lets his arrogance and anger control his actions.

He also gloats on his Piston Cup victory and presents his trophy next to him, even breaking the fourth wall to viewers about how he won it. Because of this, his selfishness once again becomes his downfall when McQueen finally beats him in a virtual race at the canonical Disney World attraction, Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy.

Biography[]

Background[]

Once, when Chick gave up a win to help an weaking car during a race, his father was angry with him, believing that his family was a "family of winners" and that Chick couldn't lose wins in the name of winning. Good sportsmanship. His strict upbringing shaped Chick's behavior as he grew older, and a last chance contributed to Hicks' cheating and general evil attitude.

Chick and Bruiser Bukowski both went to drama club and high school together and eventually became friends.

Cars[]

Chick was seen taking a pit stop in the Dinoco 400. Later, he bumps the Transberry Juice racer, showing that he is the main villain. However, he was unexpectedly overtaken by The King, Strip Weathers. Darrell Cartrip and Bob Cutlass showed that Chick was behind his arch-enemy in his entire career, and became more impatient when McQueen came in. Chick was trying to overtake The King but failed, and later had to stop McQueen. He won Round 1, but lost Round 2. Because of this, Chick slams McQueen off the track to get back to The King. To make sure he gets more distance between him and McQueen, he slammed the RPM racer, who hits the Sputter Stop Racer, who hits the Faux Wheel Drive racer, and so on, and causes a massive crash. Unexpectedly, McQueen went through after jumping on two racers.

When Chick was in the pits, he was in pride till his crew chief told him McQueen went through and told his pit crew to go faster, ending up with him being in the back. He rushed from the back to front to win, and he used his time wisely to win when McQueen lost his tires, but he failed. Chick later comes in after McQueen's pit crew leave. He taunts him, saying that the Piston Cup was his, but McQueen attracted more paparazzi. Later, when the three-way tie scene happens, Chick hosts his plan by telling McQueen whoever gets to California first gets Dinoco all for themselves. Knowing that McQueen wanted to be with Dinoco, he presumably had the Delinquent Road Hazards to keep his driver staying up all night so McQueen may get lost. When McQueen was lost by Chick's plan, the latter steals his fans by stealing how McQueen attracts people and sh-ooze with Dinoco. Later, when McQueen watches Mack's TV, he sees that Chick stole most of his fans, and stole his catchphrase as "Ka-chicka" as well.

After attracting more fans, he was in the track "Kachigga"-ing McQueen. When the race happens, he slams his door and laughs when McQueen goes out of the track. When McQueen was coming, Chick slams McQueen, but his backward trick made Chick's plan fail. In anger, he burst McQueen's tire, but Guido's record made Chick enraged. Because of this, Chick tries to hit McQueen but misses him, so he slams McQueen and The King off the track, and the latter was about to lose. As McQueen nears the finish line, Chick, refusing to finish the race behind The King again (who is trying to stay in second place to prevent Chick hurting McQueen), violently PITs his rival (sideswipes in the bumper), sending The King into a brutal crash. McQueen sees The King's condition on a TV monitor, and, recalling Doc Hudson's famous crash and tragic end to his career, stops just before the finish line, allowing a gleeful Chick to win the race. However, as Chick does donuts and gloatfully celebrates his victory, he realizes that the fans (including McQueen's friends) aren't cheering him on because of his notorious act, and instead giving praise to McQueen for his respectful act on helping The King finish his last race.

After McQueen pushes The King to the finish line, Chick comes into the podium and asks for his Piston Cup between a mob of angry media and fans disgusted for his poor sportsmanship, in which the trophy is thrown to him by an offscreen presenter (also fed up with his actions) as he says "now that's what I'm talkin' about!". Later, asks the angered crowd on why they aren't celebrating his victory with him and asks for girls and confetti, but to his shock, they slammed him with the confetti instead of using it as a celebration for him as he tells them to take it easy with it. Later, he "Kachigga"s and brags about wanting to sign his deal with Dinoco, along with snapping pictures for him, but the media and his fans booed showing they are unhappy with him because they all finally clearly saw his heartless actions and found out he won by cheating, finally knowing Chick Hicks was the one who crashed all the racers, popped McQueen's tire, and later they all saw him take out Strip Weathers, they all threw discarded tires, debris, merchandise, and other stuff on him as revenge for his actions, not caring about his victory. As they continued throwing stuff at him, Chick gets away with the Piston Cup trophy as he realized that the Chick-era ended as it began, but left defeated and humiliated and implied he possibly chose to retire or got banned from racing for bad sportsmanship after McQueen wins his 4th Piston Cup. Therefore, Chick's first Piston Cup win was very well a hollow victory. Nevertheless, McQueen, having realized that friendship comes first than winning even if it costs him the Piston Cup to a dirty cheater, is still given applause by his friends and the rest of the crowd for his good sportsmanship and acknowledge him as the real winner, along with the King, and the former is given the opportunity by Tex Dinoco to become their new racer. However, McQueen declines, choosing to stay with Rust-eze instead, but asks Tex to have Mater ride on a Dinoco helicopter.

Cars 3[]

Chick retired from racing at some point before the events of the film (never revealed why he did) and is now an announcer for RSN and hosts his own talk show, Chick's Picks with Chick Hicks, where he introduces Jackson Storm along with a special guest Natalie Certain. During his show, Chick gives racing commentary and gloats about his first victory, even cyberbullying McQueen on television. When Storm wins the Gears and Glory 450 at the Heartland Motor Speedway in the 2016 Piston Cup Season, Chick accompanies him on the winner's podium, with Storm boasting about McQueen retiring. Later, McQueen watches on Mack's television where Chick and Natalie give a report on Storm beating the record for fastest lap in Piston Cup history at the Florida International Speedway and the possibility of McQueen's retirement, which resulted in McQueen turning off the TV in disappointment as he contacted Mater for assistance. He is not seen again afterward. Despite this, he shows some delight that Lightning lost showing that he might not have gotten over what happened. That said since he hosts his own show he might have gained some of his former fans back though it's implied that most fans don't watch his show because of his reckless driving and dirtyactions, as one of the forklift TV crew looks unimpressed.

In other media[]

Cars: The Video Game[]

Chick is also the main antagonist of Cars: The Video Game. He hired the Delinquent Road Hazards to steal Lightning's racing gear out of Mack's trailer during the 2006 season. Lightning confronted Chick at the fourth race, but Chick claimed to know nothing about it. He was later defeated by McQueen and lost the season. Chick returned to Radiator Springs to train for the next season, and once again made some new friends who he used to taunt McQueen. Lightning beat Chick at the final race, and he fled back to his hometown.

Cars: Radiator Springs Adventures[]

In Cars: Radiator Springs Adventures, Chick is one of the speeders Sheriff must catch in the "Speed Trap" mini-game. After you win the event, you unlock the Legends Race secret for Chick and can challenge him to a race.

Cars Race-O-Rama[]

In Cars Race-O-Rama, he returns as the main antagonist. He tells McQueen that he and some of his friends are here to win the Race-O-Rama series and shut down the Doc Hudson Racing Academy which he calls "pathetic". If he does so, everyone would want to come to his racing academy, the Chick Hicks Racing Academy where they will probably learn to cheat. However, McQueen, having installed some modifications, won the Race-O-Rama series, and Chick leaves in shame after swearing revenge.

The World of Cars Online[]

In The World of Cars Online, Chick could be seen hiding in Big Heartland Speedway. It was rumored that he was the one who sabotaged the track. As seen in The Lexi Lowdown, Chick drove a lot of players crazy. He also appeared as an opponent during races at the Petroleum City Super Speedway and Los Angeles International Speedway.

Cars 2: The Video Game[]

Unlike the film, in Cars 2: The Video Game, Chick appears as a downloadable playable character, available only in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. He can be purchased either separately for $0.99, or in the Radiator Springs Character Bundle with Ramone, Flo, and Sheriff for $2.99. He is a medium weight racer that is focused more on speed than power.

Disney INFINITY[]

In the first Disney INFINITY game, he is the main antagonist of the Cars Play Set. After the "Calibrate GPS" mission is completed, Chick comes into Radiator Springs and stops at Flo's V8 Café. He then asks if this is Radiator Springs before Flo asks if she can get anything for him. Chick asks to start with some jumper cables, and that the town is putting him to sleep. He later leaves after Flo suggests to keep rolling if he won't order anything. He then challenges the player to race against him. After you win, he says that he wants a rematch.

He later competes as a random opponent in the races. Before the start of the Radiator Springs International Race Invitation held by Luigi, Chick says to the other racers that he is plotting to win the race and that it will be the "last time you'll be seeing my grill." Francesco Bernoulli, however, states to The King that he almost likes Chick and that he would have said it better. Finn McMissile then states that something suspicious has happened since Chick arrived, saying that Fillmore's fuel has gone missing right before the big race. Chick then replies saying, "Yeah, yeah. Whatever. We gonna get this race started or what?" After the player wins the race, Chick appears with smoke coming out of him, implied to have been caused by him consuming Fillmore's fuel.

When he asks if he had won, Finn says to him that he's through and will be sent to the impound lot. Ramone, however, explains that he has been looking for a perfect wreck to fix up for "Detail My Dents", and that Chick is "the worst looking car I've ever seen". Flo then agrees with Ramone to paint Chick red with lightning bolts, before they both drag him away. Shocked at the thought of being painted like McQueen, Chick asks them to take him to the impound instead.

When the Cars vault is opened by having all four characters interact with it, a toy of Chick can be unlocked for use in your toy box worlds.

Cars 3: Driven to Win[]

Chick Hicks serves as the secondary antagonist (alongside Miss Fritter and Mater the Greater (well he's not a villain)) of the game and is voiced by Jude Hillary (possibly due to budget costs). At some point before the game, he invited Lightning McQueen to his talk show to discuss the continuation of his racing career, which Chick considered "ill-advised". When Lightning, Jackson Storm and Cruz Ramirez set up a competition, he dubs it "Lightning Storm Cruise" and gives them access to the studio's racing simulator. Chick also is shown interviewing other racers such as Mrs. Fritter, Mater the Greater, and Lightning McQueen himself. At one point, he challenges McQueen to a takedown event in a simulation, which he, despite cheating in it by creating multiple clones of himself, loses. Despite being sure that Jackson will defeat Lightning, he is proved wrong when the latter wins instead and readily admits that Lightning isn't done with racing. He is last seen watching Storm get chased by Miss Fritter at the Thunder Hollow Speedway.

He can be unlocked as a playable character by winning the Chick Hicks Takedown event. Chick Hicks also gives commentary to the player’s performance after races, even continuing to give out insulting remarks on McQueen as well. Chick is also shown throughout the game's main menu navigation at his set, where if the player waits longer, he would leave the set in disgust, with forklift crew putting a cardboard cutout of him.

Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy[]

Chick returns as the main antagonist for the canonical attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios called Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy. Although Chick has retired and turned into a reporter in the third film, he went back to being McQueen's rival and hacked into his racing simulator presentation to challenge him to a virtual race to settle their unfinished business and humiliate him.

When Miss Fritter appeared on screen and told Chick that she's friends with Lightning as well and told him that no one messes with Lighting, Chick was defeated by Miss Fritter pushing him away. After Chick disappeared, Lightning apologized to the audience and the lesson went in a different way, but tells them that Chick reminded him that in the end, racing isn't all about speed, flash, and crossing alongside you.

In this attraction, he was once again voiced by Bob Peterson.

Pixar Popcorn[]

Chick briefly appears in the short, Unparalleled Parking as a minor antagonist, though he has no lines in the short. In the short, he is one of the contestants for a parking test hosted by the Sheriff. He is shown trying to park properly so he can one up McQueen. However, he tips a cone over and fails, before angrily knocking the cones over and driving away in defeat.

Powers and abilities[]

Chick is an incredibly fast race car that often does quite well in Piston Cup races (only due to him cheating), though he was inferior to The King's skills prior to his retirement in 2005, despite having around the same top speed as him (as evidenced by the 3-way tie where he was right next to The King at the finish line). Between the events of Cars: Race-O-Rama and Cars 3, Chick retired, and his sponsor did not return in Cars 3. Along with Lightning McQueen and The King, his top speed is in the area of 200 MPH. He has a small spoiler on his rear deck lid for aerodynamics.

Weaponry and Gadgets[]

In Cars 3: Driven to Win, Chick when bossed in his takedown event with his clones has these weapons:

  • Machine Guns/Rapid Fire: Chick (with his clones), has machine guns to hurt the player.
  • Missile Launcher/Rockets: Chick and his clones launch various missiles so they can attack the player.
  • Magnetic Mine/Road Mine: Chick with its versions, use that Magnetic or Road Mine to launch it in a part of the circuit to damage the player.

Accomplishments[]

  • Veteran racer and rival to The King, falling 2nd place behind him.
  • Piston Cup Champion, though got booed by fans after crashing The King.
  • RSN announcer and host of Chick's Picks.

Trivia[]

  • Chick largely serves as a dark parallel to McQueen. They are both racers who dream of getting at Dinoco, which represents the peak of success. However, through his interactions and life lessons with Mater, Sally, and Doc while held up in Radiator Springs, McQueen learned humility, compassion, and that there was more to life than winning, fame, and fortune after he chose to give up the Piston Cup to help The King finish his race when he knew that the legendary Dinoco racer wouldn't end up like Doc, even if it meant allowing his rival to claim victory through cheating and dirty means, and chose to stay with Rust-eze despite Tex feeling that McQueen earned it for his actions. On the other hand, Chick, having won the Piston Cup, failed to learn the error of his ways and let his arrogance be his downfall after getting stoned, pelted, and booed off the stage by the angry fans following his unfair Piston Cup victory at LA Speedway and was thus denied sponsorship to Dinoco despite winning the trophy. Thus, Chick serves as an example of what McQueen would have become if he had allowed his arrogance to consume him and had not looked beyond what he wanted, as well as to teach viewers that you don't often win competitions and that there are more important things in life than winning.
    • However, these traits are more exaggerated in Chick Hicks, and often make him more argumentative, ridiculous and obnoxious than his red counterpart ever was, before or after his visit to Radiator Springs. Chick always brags about winning, and he is also shown to be a very sarcastic, unpleasant, treacherous, intimidating and formidable enemy. Having lived all of his career in the shadow of The King has made him bitter and devoid of any sense of fair play. One of his actions involved knocking the King (who was about to retire anyway) into the off-road. It also showed that Chick still only cares about the trophy he won as well as verbal bullying McQueen when he became a talk show host while having gotten away with his negative actions such as dirty cheating, wrecking The King and winning unfairly. Chick boasting his win along with his actions proved that Doc Hudson was right about "empty cups". This proves that he only cares about trophies, fame, bragging, greed, and winning, while for McQueen, he put friendship first by giving up the Piston Cup and helping The King finish his final race. Thus, Chick’s role as a talk show host making rude comments on McQueen’s losses also gives an example of what McQueen could’ve become if he crossed the finish line first and never helped the King finish his last race, along with the fact that he let his anger, selfishness, and cockiness get the best of him and never ended up in Radiator Springs and learned about Doc's lesson about how people quit on him. That being said, Chick could also be a dark parallel to Doc Hudson, as Doc seemingly became a bitter, grumpy old man who didn't approve of McQueen when first meeting him due to the fact that it reminded him of his past that put him out of season along with his forced retirement, before they eventually got along and became his coach.
    • Chick's actions bullying McQueen on television and talking about his ill-gotten Piston Cup also teach viewers that they shouldn't be too arrogant even if they win and that they should humble themselves, along with the fact that it’s rude and not nice to make fun of others and call them names.
  • He has the same number as the Jumbo Pretzels racer in the Teaser Trailer.
  • According to old scripts, he was supposed to be named Chick Murphy.
    • This was likely changed due to another NASCAR related film also created by Disney called: Herbie: Fully Loaded where the main antagonist in that film was called "Trip Murphy", who was a NASCAR driver for Cheetos. The name was changed to spare confusion since the projects had similar backgrounds.
      • Fittingly, Michael Keaton was also in the movie, portraying Ray Peyton Sr, the father of Maggie Peyton. The only difference is that Ray Peyton Sr was a crew chief, while Chick Hicks was a dirty racer and that Ray Peyton wasn't an antagonist, but wanted to protect his daughter Maggie from racing.
    • And In concept art, Chick Hicks' original racing number was 1, and was named ''The Fabulous Floyd'', this is also likely where Floyd Mulvihill the racer for Gasprin originates from.
  • Chick is the most recurring villain in the Cars franchise as he appears in Cars, Cars 3, and almost every video game (excluding Cars: Mater-National Championship).
    • In Cars 3, the Lightyear logo on his tires were replaced by yellow lettering reading his own name, Chick Hicks.
    • In concept art, Chick Hicks' original racing number was 1, and his name was "The Fabulous Floyd".
    • This is likely where the name Floyd Mulvihill originates from.
  • Chick makes his team (except his crew chief) wear "mustache" grilles to represent him.
  • It is unknown if Chick Hicks is actually his real name. His name could somewhat represent that he is a cheater.
  • According to the 2009 Die-cast Collectors Guide, Chick Hicks has 334 decals on him.
  • Chick is a 1979 Shyster Gremlin, a car that does not exist. It is designed after a 1987 Buick Grand National.
  • Chick's number "86" could come from 1986, the year that Pixar was established and when Luxo, Jr. was released. "86" is also slang for "destroying" or "to get rid of". His number could also represent his reckless driving style, pushing off other racers off the road.
  • Even though Chick did not appear in Cars 2, he can be obtained via downloadable content in Cars 2: The Video Game.
  • On his right door, there is a picture of the Marshy-Marshmallows logo. This is mostly the same company which was seen in A Bug's Life under the name of "Joel's Marshy Marshmallows".
  • In the Polish version, his name is Marek Marucha. Ma rucha means "He has speeds of the film".
  • Chick's primary sponsor is the Hostile Takeover Bank (htB), which is fitting considering his bad nature and that "hostile takeover" is basically to describe when one company directly approaches the owner of another companies and buys it, even if the previous owner didn't want it to be bought, and that "hostile takeover" can also mean ramming other cars.
    • After Chick quit racing, it was left unknown if HtB still sponsored any racer. In 2022, a Cars diecast of a next-gen HtB racer replacing Rowdy Revvin' Busch, based on Kyle Busch, was released, but whether he exists in the Cars canon is unknown.
  • Chick should have been disqualified even before the events of the movie because of PIT'ing and aggressive driving but for the convenience of the plot, he was kept as a racer since doing so there would be no antagonist. Because of this, it is implied that the race officials don't care and allow him to play dirty just because he's in contention of winning the Piston Cup, and also because he wanted to beat The King and McQueen (though it is also possible that the race officials were bribed offscreen by HtB to not punish or disqualify Chick).
  • Due to his obnoxious, selfish, bullying attitude, it is assumed that Chick Hicks doesn't have any real friends (with the exception of his pit crew and a few of his former fans, and possibly Natalie Certain and Jackson Storm), as shown when he has a brief conversation with McQueen about feeling lonely prior to the tiebreaker race. This is also a reversal to McQueen that he previously had no real friends with the exception of Mack and his former pit crew, before ending up at Radiator Springs and gaining new friends there, learning valuable life lessons from them, while Chick is only a selfish, rude, racing bully who only cares and boasts about himself, using others to mock and abuse other race cars to increase his fame.
  • In the 2005 teaser trailer for Cars, a green Nitroade racer under number 13 is shown competing against a red racer under number 57, McQueen's prototype. The green racer could also be Chick's prototype, also suggesting that Nitroade was going to be his sponsor until it was given to Aiken Axler in the final film.
    • Fittingly, the number 13 also represents a bad luck number like 86. Another fact is that this number was later used for Ripslinger, the main antagonist of the Cars spin-off Planes.
  • Due to being voiced by Bob Peterson in the third movie, Chick's voice sounds different than he was in the first movie, making him sound like a character Bob Peterson voiced such as Mr. Ray from Finding Nemo. Thus Chick's voice in the third movie makes him sound like a sarcastic, bullying, selfish version of Nemo's school teacher when berating and insulting McQueen on television. However, in Cars 3: Driven to Win, his voice becomes similar to Michael Keaton's voice when voiced by Jude Hilary.
  • In the normal version of the first film, Chick was voiced by Michael Keaton and in the Danish version, he was voiced by Mads Mikkelsen. Both Keaton and Mikkelson portrayed villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Keaton portrayed Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Mikkelsen portrayed by Kaecilius in Doctor Strange.
    • His Danish voice actor, Mads Mikkelsen also did the voice of Randall Boggs (who is another Pixar villain) in the Danish version of Monsters Inc.
  • Chick Hicks is one of the four main Pixar villains to actually succeed in his plans (by winning his first Piston Cup title) with the other three being Chef Skinner from Ratatouille, Ernesto de la Cruz from Coco (despite his plan being foiled), and Gabby Gabby from Toy Story 4 (despite turning good at the end). Although despite having succeeded by winning his first Piston Cup title, his win is more of a hollow victory as McQueen learned from his experience in Radiator Springs that helping others is important than fame, fortune and winning, while Chick himself didn't learn the lesson on what McQueen did, but he still got away with his actions nonetheless. Whereas for McQueen, despite having accepted defeat even if it meant allowing a cheater to win, he has humbled himself ever since, having learned the lesson of friendship.
  • Whether Chick is truly evil or simply has a horrific attitude to the point of hitting other cars regardless of how much he damages them is debatable. Regardless, he moved on from his actions in the first movie to be just a selfish, greedy news reporter in the third. That said, he still hasn't shown redemption as shown still bullying McQueen on TV over the possibility of retiring.
  • In the Rioplatenese version of Cars, he is voiced by Marcos di Palma, an Argentinian race car driver known for his brash attitude.
  • Despite now being a talk show host bullying McQueen and boasting his trophy, according to other media, Chick is still somewhat a sore loser, as shown when he doesn't park properly in the Cars short Unparalleled Parking, and losing to McQueen in a virtual race in Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy. His appearances in both of them could still imply that he is still a rival of McQueen despite retiring.
  • According to the Car Finder trivia, Chick went to drama school with one of his crew mechanics, Bruiser Buckowski, as well as the same high school. Chick's time in drama school could've contributed to his work as a talk show host. This info also contributes how Chick and Bruiser became friends.
  • According to the Boom! Studios comics, Chick Hicks had an abusive father who belittled him for "coddl[ing] losers" and told him that victory must be had at all cost, which is to be likely the reason he grew up to be a cheater. This is to mostly be implied and interpreted since the comics aren’t considered as canon.
    • Also in the comics, Chick Hicks once forfeited a win so he can help out a car, which resulted him being reprimanded by his father for showing good sportsmanship. This is basically a reversal of Lightning McQueen having to forfeit his victory by helping The King finish his last race, learning that there are more important things in life than winning, while for Chick helping out the car, this led to him being a cheater unlike McQueen.
  • In the Cars TV spots that were released during the time it was about to be on DVD, they show Chick Hicks with his Piston Cup trophy and being hit by confetti in the podium prior to his defeat when the media and fans boo and stone him, spoiling the film's ending.
  • If Chick Hicks did win the Dinoco 400 alongside winning the Piston Cup, it is highly likely that Tex would still refuse to sponsor him due to having played dirty in the race and would still be booed for it. It is also likely that if The King did win, he would’ve passed on the Dinoco sponsorship to McQueen or someone else, presumably Cal Weathers but not Chick Hicks due to having hated him ever since.
  • Despite being a well recieved character, Chick is one of the most hated character's of the Cars franchise because of what he does.
  • In the Latin American version of Cars 3, when Chick interviews Storm while making an insult about McQueen's recent loss, he says “Chau Chau!” instead of Caboose, as the word means goodbye in Latin American countries, making the joking insult funny to Spanish spectators.
  • Chick Hicks’ bad sportsmanship attitude and making fun of McQueen could somewhat be a representation of D.O.F (Destroyer of Fun), an unthinkable that causes people to have bad sportsmanship in the Superflex Edutainment comic series.
