You must be squidding about Yo-kai and humans being friends! Humans are inferior! Yo-kai should be the ones ruling the world!
~ McKraken revealing his beliefs.
You've all lost your pride! You let yourselves be tamed like little pets! I have nothing more to discuss with you. This world is mine! Now you shall feel the power that will rule both worlds...and your souls! Prepare yourselves. This will be all the more satisfying if you put up a fight!
~ McKraken's words before the final fight.

Chairman McKraken (in Japanese: イカカモネ議長, Ikakamone gichō), or simply McKraken, is the main antagonist of the 3DS videogame Yo-kai Watch.

He is the head of the political party that took over the Yo-kai World when Lord Enma the Ancient passed away. He desired is to take full control of both the Yo-kai World and the human world, mostly due to his belief that the two sides can't truly befriend one another. McKraken has the power to cause ocean catastrophes and corrupt Yo-kai, who proceed to acquire a white hue and who do not want to befriend humans anymore.

Biography[]

Yo-kai Watch[]

Despite not being introduced, or even mentioned until the game's last few chapters, his presence and influence is very much felt throughout the story. Such as when the seals that protect Springdale begin to weaken, resulting in Yo-kai like Slimamander appearing.

Later, he begins escaping to the human realm and plans to unleash full havoc on Springdale. He is finally mentioned by Dr. Maddiman after his defeat at the Nocturne Hospital. Draggie lets the heroes see him via his crystal ball, showing him delivering a speach to his followers, revealing that McKraken's party is already planning a full-scale invasion on the human realm.

The next day, when the final chapter "Farewell, Yo-kai" begins, Lucas pays a visit to the protagonist's house to inform him/her and Whisper that he is able to see Yo-kai, even without the help of a Yo-kai Watch. He also told them about his dreams of a strange world and that in these dreams, he saw himself giving the key to the Yo-kai World to Nathan/Katie, which he proceeds to do. Whisper also informs the heroes to use the key at the Sacred Tree of Mount Wildwood to activate the Yo-kai Elevator, which takes them to Yo-kai World. Once they arrive, the heroes set out to defeat McKraken and save both worlds.

After defeating Venoct, Venoct proceeds to tell a story that reveals the reason for the Yo-kai Watch's creation. This story also reveals that Lucas is Lord Enma's successor. After he finishes his story, Venoct joins the heroes and then the heroes set off to face McKraken.

After he is defeated, he warns them that he will always come back. Kyubi later informs them that the Chairman disabled all the Yo-kai seals while they were fighting, thus causing the evil Yo-kai to escape to the human realm. This becomes evident when Slimamander returns and fights the heroes again. The heroes succesfully beat it, but find out that Uptown Sprindale is already taken over by Yo-kai faithful to the McKraken.

Whisper suggests that their best bet is to seal all entrances to Yo-kai World, including the Yo-kai Elevator. However, this will also mean that all Yo-kai the protagonist has made friends with will also be gone forever. Seeing as they have no other option they agree. Whisper gives the hero/heroine some Blossoming Powder and they use it to seal all of Uptown Springdale. Soon, the humans begin to notice a calmer aura surround them.

They later track down the last rogue Yo-kai to the Sacred Tree. It turns out to be McKraken himself, who, as a last stand, proceeds to absorb all the aura that channels through the Sacred Tree and become a powerful monstrosity. The heroes and all the Yo-kai that the protagonists befriended prepare for their final battle and finally defeated him for good. With Mckraken gone, heroes and all the Yo-kai that the protagonists befriended sealed all entrances to Yo-kai World, including the Yo-kai Elevator in order to stop the evil Yo-kai's full-scale invasion on the human realm. In the credits of the game, he is shown having Gargaros, Ogralus and Orcanos clean up the segment of the Yo-kai world he ruled.

Yo-kai Watch 2[]

It is seemingly implied that after the events of the first game, McKraken had been banished from the Yo-Kai world. He can be revived by Mircle's Baffle Board in the Yo-kai World. He is battled and driven off, but Mircle offers to resummon him once a day. In Psychic Specters' 'Psychic Blasters' mode, McKraken appears as a boss, having two phases; his normal, and second fight, appearances to be exact.

Yo-kai Watch 3[]

McKraken does not have as big of a role as he does before. His most notable appearance is in the quest line 'The Old Lady & The Sukiyaki Trade', in which the player learns that his punishment for his actions in the last two games led to him becoming manager of Phoenix Sushi and Serenity Tempura. After collecting the Wicked Yo-Kai's ingredients, he confronts them, the player and Dame Deartime outside Haven Sukiyaki. With Haven Sukiyaki's sudden popularity, it has begun driving his customers to the shop, and now, he wants to pick a fight with them. Deartime is able to persuade McKraken out of this, and he eventually decides he'd like to try the shop's Sukiyaki one day. Deartime tells McKraken he's welcome anytime.

Outside of this, McKraken's second form, appears as an optional boss in the Blasters T mode. He can be fought in the third floor of the Pyramid of Clu.

Yo-kai Watch 4[]

McKraken makes his befriendable debut in the main series in Yo-Kai Watch 4 and is exclusive to the Switch version of the game. The player is required to have the Nintendo Switch port of Yo-Kai Watch installed on their Nintendo Switch, where they will then recieve a code for the 'McKraken Tag'. McKraken can then be fought, and befriended in the Yo-Kai World, after the player has beaten the game. He is unobtainable in the PS4 version due to the method required to getting him, despite having an Ukikupedia entry.

Trivia[]

  • There is a recolor of his final form found in the Infinite Inferno called Squisker. Apparently, they are family.
  • Ironically, the section of the Yo-kai World he ruled ended up being converted into a single restaurant.
