Celia Fortner is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Dmitrii Blinov) of the Castlevania video-game Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.

She is a mystical priestess who after Count Dracula's final demise in 1999, Celia is searching for his successor as the King of the Night. She recruits Dmitrii Blinov and Dario Bossi as candidates and meddles with Dracula's reincarnation, the main hero Soma Cruz. Her final fate depends on Soma's choices and actions.

Powers and Abilities[]

Celia Fortner is a young and immensely powerful mage-priestess, expert in spell-casting, rituals, and Magic Seals, being able to open dimensional portals, summon and control hordes of monsters, and create all manners of things.

At only twenty-six years old, she is the founder and leader of the mysterious "With Light" cult, who believes that good cannot truly exist without evil, meaning that the King of the Night is necessary for the balance of the universe. (Her view is stated to be true, but Dracula's son Alucard explains that the balance will eventually restore itself on its own.) As such, she set out for potential successors to inherit Dracula's throne.

Personality[]

Although Celia is the most ambiguous antagonist of the series, being more neutral than anything else, and seeking to restore the natural order above all, she is very self-righteous, inflexible and ruthless to the point of fanaticism. She refuses to back down and is unable to even fathom being wrong, without caring for morality.

Dracula's demise having weakened magic forces, she also seeks the King of the Night's Second Coming out of interest, to salvage and possibly increase her influence. She views herself as a guide meant to lead humanity to salvation, whether they like it or not

Celia is polite and dignified, but cold, imperturbable, and creepily emotionless. She is observant and calculating, setting the stage and making her moves following the events. She is also very manipulative, finding people's triggers to influence them. Despite her notable intelligence, she is far too conceited to realize that her pawns have agendas of their own that can (and will) clash with hers, leaving herself open for backstabbing.

Biography[]

Celia Fortner recruited Dario and Dmitrii, who like Graham Jones before them were born the exact day Dracula was destroyed for good and inherited some of his powers. She also heard of Soma Cruz, Dracula's redeemed reincarnation, who defeated Graham and Chaos, the very essence of Evil, in 2035.

One year later, she opens a portal to the Abyss and uses it to fuel a reflection of the Castlevania she created. (The real one having been sealed in a solar eclipse). She swarmed it with monsters who served the King of the Night. Deeming Soma unworthy, she seeks to have him killed and replaced by her two candidates.

At the start of the game, she appears before Soma (who relinquished his powers) and his girlfriend Mina Hakuba, and summons skeletons to kill them, but Alucard, Dracula’s son, appears under his human aspect. She keeps him at bay with a Barrier spell but he gives Soma a weapon, and she teleports away after he slays the skeletons.

Celia later lures Soma in her Dark Castle and plans to make her three candidates fight to the death to see who would prevail. She teleports Dario away when the latter is about to be defeated by Soma, and fuses his soul with the Fire Demon Aguni to increase his powers before setting up a rematch.

Bad Endings[]

If Soma kills both Dmitrii and Dario, Celia's plan will be trashed and she will flee her Castle, never to be seen again.

If Soma defeats Aguni instead of Dario however, she uses a doppelganger shape-shifted as Mina, pretending to hold her captive. When Soma confronts her, she kills it before his eyes, to overcome him with hatred and him turn evil. If Soma watches this without wearing Mina's pendant it triggers the bad ending, in which he becomes the King of the Night and kills Celia with a surge of Dark Energy stating: "You annoy me and that's all the reason I need." This triggers the Julius Mode in which Julius Belmont, Dracula’s final victor fights Dark Lord Soma, restarting the never-ending battle between Good and Evil.

Good Ending[]

If on the contrary Soma wears Mina's pendant, Alucard barges in to reveal the subterfuge, saving Soma from corruption. But it now appears that Dmitrii let his soul be absorbed by Soma after his defeat to copy his powers from the inside, and possesses the doppelganger to regain his physical body.

Celia recognizes Dmitrii as the true successor and teleports with him into the Abyss of Hell, to crown him as the new King of the Night. But he sacrifices her to summon countless demons and defeat Alucard who tracked them down. He later sets Celia's corpse on display until Soma barges in, then he destroys it as a demonstration of his newfound power. However, said power proves too much for him and he dies right after, spawning the eldritch demon Menace.
