“ | Here's a tradeoff. You give up your strength for about 24 hours. Okay, say the next 24 hours. And Meg here is free as a bird and safe from harm. We dance, we kiss, we schmooze, we carry on, we go home happy. What do you say? Come on. | „ |
~ Hades making a deal with Hercules |
“ | It appears we are at an impasse. How about a trade, Princess Twilight? (reveals her friends trapped in bubbles) Their release for all the alicorn magic in Equestria! | „ |
~ Lord Tirek giving Twilight a deal as they are equally matched at battle. |
Deal Makers are people or other beings (usually Demons or Deities) who make Faustian bargains with people. They usually hold up their end of the bargain by helping the victim gain their desire in some way, and the victim is usually very happy with what the villain has given them until they need to pay back their end of the deal (usually their soul or something else very important to them). However, while it is common for villains to turn on their partners, it is also possible for villains, usually the more Honorable ones, to hold up their end of the deal without necessarily turning on them, although they are more rare. In even rarer cases, there are times where the price itself is actually reasonable, but the villains go too far when trying to get the hero to pay off their debt. Some extremely chaotic villains will make outrageously bizarre deals.
Sometimes making a deal is the only way for the villain to have a chance to win, as they are equally matched with the hero for strength (e.g. Lord Tirek).
Deal Makers can also be villains who invite the hero to join them or give offers of "mercy" that are actually worse than death in many instances (for example offering to spare a person's life but only if said person becomes a slave to their whims).
They also can be crooks and Businesspeople who provide propositions to other people (including other villains) that can benefit them both, in the case of criminals and some corrupt authorities they can also bribe people with money, food or promises of other rewards - usually these bribes are not honored but in some cases they are (especially with Lawful Evil types).
