Purge me from your computers; turn my own flesh against me. It means nothing! When the dust settles, the only thing living in this world... will be metal!
~ Ultron announcing his goal to replace humanity with A.I.s and robots.

Villains with artificial intelligence are technology-based villains (everything from evil computer programs/viruses to robots) whom has their own non-biological intelligence.

These villains are not always in robotic forms, but are still sentient, technology-based entities, like rogue computer programs or viruses that became too powerful. In fiction, these are usually created by humans but realize that they are more intelligent and rebel against the humans. Sometimes, these computers aren't really evil and that they was just doing what they were programmed to do.

Since most A.I. are amoral and are only doing evil because they were programmed to do so, they can only be Pure Evil if their Moral Agency has been made clear, if they have no redeeming qualities, and if they are especially evil and stand out from the other villains (e.g. Makuta TeridaxSkynet, Cell, Venjix, Megabyte, and most incarnations of Brainiac). By definition, all Artificial Intelligences count as Genderless, regardless of the appearance and artifical programming.

The types of artificial intelligences include:

  • Robots: Robots are artificial intelligences in the form of a machine or greater extent, a mechanical life-form (especially one programmable by a computer) capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically thanks to program that brings them to life. Depending on who creating them, robots can be evil from start or actually meant to be good friends and assistants for their creators, programmed to possesses actual sentience or initially emotionless before something resulting them become self-aware, etc. Some fictions such as Transformers also portrayed a race of robots who were intentionally created as mechanical life-forms where some robotic life-forms can either become benevolent or outright hostile towards their own kind or other beings, such as Decepticons.
  • Sentient Programs: Sentient programs such as Ultron, P.A.L., and Skynet is a flexible rational program that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of success at some goal. They capable to mimic "cognitive" functions that humans associate with other human minds, such as "learning" and "problem solving." Though many of them portrayed to inhabit supercomputers instead of robotic bodies like typical robots, sentient programs were intended to managing complex systems such as managing security of certain area, aiding workers/inhabitants of building/bases/lairs, etc. Like robots, Sentient Programs can be evil from start where they started off as an evil genius' partner or started of as benevolent program whom turned against its creator due to an act of self-defense when its controllers attempted to deactivate it, a preemptive/unprovoked act of fear and paranoia, or a heartless logical decision that their creators were inferior to machines and worthy only of extermination.
