Animals (excluding humans) are common in many settings, whether they be true animals - such as Cujo - or anthropomorphic characters such as Shadow the Hedgehog: a true animal villain is not really evil, but rather guided by instinct or hunger (such as Jaws), while some may be more clever and malicious (such as Dr. Blowhole). Animal villains can also be predators, such as foxes, bears, and snakes.

Aside modern-day animals, creatures from prehistoric era such as dinosaurs, flying reptiles, etc. can also be animal villains in fiction, where they appear as well.

However, anthropomorphic animal villains are usually the direct opposite and are guided by human emotions and ideals, such as Jenner's love of power or Hopper's hatred of opposition.
