Billy Cole is the secondary antagonist of the 1985 horror film Fright Night. He was the personal bodyguard and right-hand of Jerry Dandridge, and also the partner of Evil Ed.

Billy was portrayed by Jonathan Stark.

Biography

Billy first appears with Jerry when they move into Charley's neighborhood and helped Jerry grab a coffin.

He is later seen protecting and hiding Jerry from the police and says that Jerry was not a vampire as Charley had said, which obviously works. When the police leave, Billy watches Charley from the balcony of Jerry’s houses , but Charley run away to get help.

He appears when Charley and his friends visited their house. Charley then tried to show that Jerry was a vampire. Billy is suspicious of this, but Jerry accepts the challenge. Jerry then drinks holy water and nothing happens to him. Charley then implies that the water was not blessed and asks if Jerry could grab a crucifix. Actor Peter Vincent then becomes frustrated and makes Charley and his friends go out, except him. Peter then uses a mirror and becomes scared when he sees that Jerry had no reflection. Peter then runs away from the house in fear.

Billy makes a minor appearance in the Club Rad scene: he is seen inside of the car with Jerry, Evil Ed, and Amy. He is last seen near the end of the film, where Charley and Peter broke into their house for a final showdown. Billy protects Jerry from Charley's crucifix, knocking him out.

In the most goriest scene in the film, Peter shoots Billy point blank in the head when he first tries to advance toward the vampire hunters, which at first makes it look like he is truly dead. But then Billy returns as zombie-like figure, and Peter shoots him several more times. As Charley and Peter look at the foggy smoke to see if he is really dead, Billy steps out of the smoke, his hands stretched out, and makes his way toward Peter, grabbing him and lifting him up with incredible strength to throw him over the stairs to his death. As he is about to, however, Charley, horrified at what was about to happen, grabs a white piece of wood, lifts it up, and, with a powerful shove, rams it into Billy’s chest. As Charley helps Peter back up on his feet, they spot a little glop of green goo leaking on the floor. Billy looks down at it and notices it has gotten bigger by every drop. Then he looks at his right hand and sees that it has also begun to spew green slime. As there is now no avoiding his demise, Billy can only scream in horror as his flesh melts away into green goo on the stairs, along with other parts of his body falling away, and shortly after decomposing into sand, only until his skeleton is left . Then, a second after standing on the steps, the skeleton tumbles backward and shatters into thousands of bony pieces, save for the skull which slides into a furniture downstairs and comes to a complete rest on the floor.

Trivia

• It was not known what Billy actually was: He was not a vampire (As evidenced by the fact that he was perfectly capable of being out in the sunlight), but possessed superhuman strength and survived gunshots. It has been theorized that:
  • Billy might have been a half-vampire.
  • An undead Golem that could have been created by Jerry.
  • A ghoul or a demon.
  • A zombie, presumably a revenant.
