August Marks was one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside June Stahl) in the FX crime drama Sons of Anarchy. He was formerly the right-hand man and enforcer of Oakland drug kingpin Damon Pope, before taking over his organization upon Pope's death, becoming the biggest drug kingpin in Oakland.
He was portrayed by Billy Brown, who also played Nate Lahey in How to Get Away with Murder.

August Marks served as the right-hand man and enforcer to Damon Pope, who was the biggest drug kingpin in Oakland and who ran the construction company Pope Partners Inc, which served as a front for him drug empire. Together, Pope and Marks oversaw several other smaller gangs throughout California, keeping them in check, such as the case of Laroy Wayne and the One-Niners.
Personality[]
August Marks was a highly ruthless and intimidating enforcer, and an even more cold-hearted drug kingpin. As shown with his dismemberment of Laroy Wayne and his murder of Darnell, he had not problem gunning down his own subordinates. The only person he seemed to be loyal to, or at least have respect for, was his boss, Damon Pope.
Although he was willing to work with the Sons of Anarchy, he did not hold the same respect for them as Pope did.
Season 5[]
Clay Morrow had been shot by Opie Winston; however, when confronted by the other Sons of Anarchy who weren't present, he blamed the shooting on the One-Niners. In retaliation for the perceived attack, Tig Trager attempted to murder the leader of the One-Niners, Laroy Wayne, by crashing into a window whilst he was on a date. However, instead of Laroy, it was Laroy's girlfriend who was accidentally killed. Laroy's girlfriend was Veronica Pope, daughter of Oakland drug kingpin Damon Pope.
Wayne was instructed by Pope to lay low. However, Laroy, seeking to avenge his girlfriend, attacked a truck belonging to the Sons of Anarchy. This attack brings a lot of heat onto Pope, something Pope wanted to avoid, as since it was Pope's daughter who was murdered he would naturally be suspected of being responsible.
In order to bring the conflict with the Sons of Anarchy to an end - and likely as revenge for disobeying his orders - Pope has August Marks murder Wayne. August Marks lift up a hatch to reveal Laroy Wayne's dismembered corpse in front of Darnell, a member of the One-Niners. Marks remarks that "Little b*tch was screaming so loud, I kind of lost my sh*t."
