Al'Akir the Windlord is the Elemental Lord of Air in the Warcraft universe, and the final boss of the Throne of the Four Winds dungeon in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. He is one of two Elemental Lords to have sided with Deathwing in the war against Azeroth, the other being Ragnaros.
In ages past, Al'Akir was allowed unchecked reign over the planet that would become Azeroth, constantly warring for domination over his fellow Elemental Lords. However, when the titans came, they imposed order on the chaotic world by defeating the elementals and their dark masters, the Old Gods. To ensure Azeroth was free from their reign, the titans banished the elementals to the Elemental Plane, where they could do as they wished without threatening Azeroth.
During the Shattering, in which Deathwing violently re-entered Azeroth from exile in Deepholme, the Elemental Plane of Earth, the threshold between Azeroth and the Elemental Plane was severely damaged, allowing the elementals to reassert themselves on Azeroth. Although Therazane and Neptulon, Lords of Earth and Water, sided against Deathwing, the mighty dragon was able to ally himself with Al'Akir and Ragnaros, promising them a place in his new world of chaos.
Sending his minions to attack the desert of Uldum, Al'Akir made enemies of the Ramkahen, cat-like followers of the titans. Adventurers who came to the aid of the Ramkahen were able to assault Skywall, where they confronted Al'Akir at his citadel, the Throne of the Four Winds. After a bloody battle, the adventurers managed to slay Al'Akir. Since he was defeated in his own realm, it is believed that Al'Akir has been destroyed for all time.
